Kranzburg is a town in Codington County, South Dakota, United States. The population was 172 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Watertown, South Dakota Micropolitan Statistical Area.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.8 square miles (2.1 km2), all of it land.

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 185 people, 63 households, and 48 families residing in the town. The population density was 242.9 people per square mile (94.0/km²). There were 65 housing units at an average density of 85.4 per square mile (33.0/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 98.38% White, 0.54% African American, 0.54% Native American, 0.54% from other races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.08% of the population.
There were 63 households out of which 49.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.9% were married couples living together, 7.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 23.8% were non-families. 22.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.94 and the average family size was 3.48.
In the town the population was spread out with 37.8% under the age of 18, 6.5% from 18 to 24, 29.7% from 25 to 44, 16.2% from 45 to 64, and 9.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 29 years. For every 100 females there were 107.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.7 males.
The median income for a household in the town was $45,125, and the median income for a family was $46,406. Males had a median income of $30,125 versus $21,250 for females. The per capita income for the town was $13,258. About 6.7% of families and 15.1% of the population were below the poverty line, including 21.5% of those under the age of eighteen and none of those sixty five or over.
According to the Hastings Gazette, (April 6, 1878, page 4, column 5) and the Holy Rosary Parish Book Committee: Nicholas Friedrich Wilhelm Kranz (1841–1925) along with his brothers Johann Kranz (1832–1916), Mathais Kranz (1830–1921), and Paul Ferdinand Kranz (1832–1892) came from Dakota County on March 1878 looking for a place to settle. Friends John Baptist Hanton (1859–1940)and others believed to be Michael Ludwig, Frank Marx, Nicholas Haan, Joseph Stumpf, and Joseph J. Fox accompanied them. According to the Hastings Gazette,"the party returned from their trip into Dakota Territory on Thursday, having located a goodly quantity of land, and [NFW] gives a glowing description of the country". They all returned home on April 6, 1878 and began negotiations with the Railroad to establish a station in their new town.
N.F.W. bought the land in what they first called Dakota County Colony. The Hastings Gazette (April 10, 1878) affirms that NFW and brothers "purchased 5 sections of RR land, Codington County, Dakota Territory..." NFW then went to Chicago to set up a town depot and repair destroyed tracks. While he was there, the other founders decided to name the township Kranzburg, after the Kranz brothers. According to the Holy Rosary Book Committee, the town plot was completed on September 16, 1878. On November 9, 1878 final papers were signed with the Winona & St. Peter Railway.
